The Grit/Mesh size determines the roughness and fineness of the abrasive or the diamond coating on the surface.

As the Grit sizes increases, the abrasive or courseness becomes from Rough to more Fine for polishing.

Usually, initial polishing and cutting of rough stones can use the lower size and as the stones become more fine, we can then use the higher number for smoother finishing or fine polishing.
