The Weighing Procedure of Specific Gravity Kit :

  • Tare or set the Balance to 'Zero'
  • Place the sample in the top basket and record the 'Dry weight'
  • Remove the sample reset the balance to zero
  • Carefully lift the Basket Assembly off the Basket Support so that the lower Basket is clear of the surface of the water
  • Using tweezers, place the sample in the lower basket
  • Replace the basket assembly on the basket support
  • Record the immersed weight
  • Calculate the 'weight loss'
  • Calculate the Specific Gravity using the formula given
  • For best result clean the sample before use for any dust, grease or oily residue
  • Ensure that the sample is fully immeresed during the weighing procedure

Caution :

  • This method is recommend for large stones
  • This method can be used only for Gemstones in setting with open back
  • Ensure proper wetting of the stone
